How many tables do you need for 100 guests?
Here, 100 includes the couple and everyone needing a reception place. If your list means 100 invited guests plus the two of you, calculate for 102 instead. Include children who need a place; arrange vendor seating separately with the venue.
| Chosen places per table | Tables needed | Total places | Spare places |
|---|---|---|---|
| 8 | 13 | 104 | 4 |
| 10 | 10 | 100 | 0 |
Calculate 100 ÷ places per table, rounded up. These are seating choices, not claims that any round table holds eight or ten. Check the actual table, chairs and meal setup with your venue, or compare guidance in the round-table seating calculator.
Layout A: the couple sit with guests
Use ten tables with ten assigned people at each. The two banks make table numbers easy to follow in this illustration; the central gap has no specified width. A real dance floor, service route or column may require a different arrangement.
This option works numerically with no spare places. Check household sizes before deciding: a party of six and a party of five cannot share a ten-place table, even when there are spare chairs elsewhere.
Layout B: a separate couple’s table
For a two-person table, sometimes called a sweetheart table, subtract the couple first: 100 − 2 = 98. At ten places per guest table, round 98 ÷ 10 up to ten. Add the couple’s table for 11 tables altogether.
The illustrated guest allocation is nine tables of ten and one of eight. You could instead use eight tables of ten and two of nine. Choose the distribution that keeps your actual households and friendships together; two empty chairs do not create room for every possible party.
Where do parents sit at a wedding?
Decide with the people involved. Parents could sit with you, host their own family table, or sit at separate tables with chosen companions. There is no required parent position in this plan.
For shared-table Layout A, count the couple and every selected relative within that table’s ten places. For Layout B, choose nearby guest tables if that suits everyone. Check access and sightlines in the actual room rather than inferring them from the drawing.
Turn the layout into a printable seating chart
- Open the wedding planner and add your venue-agreed tables. Set the actual capacities and labels.
- Add your confirmed names or import a CSV with a Name column. Use one Party value per household; review any group the seating action leaves unassigned.
- Check that all 100 people appear once and are seated. Match each printed table label to its physical table.
- Choose Print / Save as PDF for full names by table or an alphabetical list. Save JSON separately to keep an editable backup.
These drawings illustrate choices; they do not preload a plan. For a blank starting layout, use the wedding seating templates. Printed output excludes private notes; CSV and JSON retain them.
